I started Happy Trails as a way of enjoying and sharing my love for dogs and hiking. For the past forty years, dogs have been part of our family. I've cared for young pups, adolescent and adult dogs, as well as old our valued senior citizens. I feel the joys of their companionship, and I seek to understand how they see the world as we go about.
It's inspiring how the past links into and feeds the present. My background in child psychology and psychotherapy (as a student and professional), my own strength training work and twenty years as a strength/conditioning coach, and my involvement in the motivational field (health and fitness) - all serve well in my present pursuit with dogs.
I am the mother of two fine daughters (now adults) and I've had a lifelong love affair with the arts. I am a writer, editor, and visual artist. To all my endeavors I bring my profound pleasure in discoveryand my love of sharing.
I invite you to join me on this Happy Trails journey!
I am committed to understanding how dogs view the world and, in so doing, develop dynamic friendships. I have adopted the positive reinforcement approach to raising a happy dog, as I sincerely feel it is the only humane way to raise and relate to our canine family members (and their humans as well). There is so much to learn and share!
Dedicated to our canine family members past & present: Pluto 1, Pluto II, Sara, Zachary Q Higgins, and now Frida AND our newest addition - Sebastian!
